Popstar would be a great choice for concerned parents wondering what subscription to get for their ten-year-old kid, because unlike many celebrity news magazines (even more teen-oriented ones), Popstar is most likely the safest one out there. It covers a great deal of celebrities that aren't huge yet, and tons of stuff about favorites like Lindsay Lohan, Hilary Duff, Raven, Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen, the cast of Harry Potter, Good Charlotte, etc. There are thousands of pinups and huge posters in each issue that will satisfy any music/TV/movie fan.Another thing I like about this magazine is that it's legnthy (each issue is 100 pagees), and there aren't any advertisements, either. The magazine has frequent exclusive interviews and pictures with celebrities that can't be found anywhere else. Additionally, Popstar covers the month's best CDs, new artists to watch out for, embarrasing moments stories, horoscopes, a bit of fashion and beauty, and more. For those who want an interesting, informational celeb magazine, Popstar would be a great choice.

This is an awesome mag! It has great gossip and it proves some rumors wrong. It has celebs, a little fashion and beauty, embarssingmoments, and much much more! I liked the See a Star's bedroom.That was really cool seeing what their room looks like! i just got this mag, and I like it very much, and for parents out there: It's totally safe. Their no bad stuff in there, just clean articles. Thismag is now my newspaper mag where I find out celebrity gossip. Well, thats all for now. Hope my review helped!

I think it was a little better in 2004 but it's still a nice mag! For those who love Celeberity gossip (like myself) except I wish it would "grow up" a bit- but I still wanna subscription for it!!!!!!!! The quizzes are really cool plus theres no health crap like in SEVENTEEN- so I'd reccomend this.

Hard Science SF

Analog brings a dependable collection of hard-science fiction stories, novellas, and frequently, a serialized novel. Almost all of them are worth reading; I'm having trouble thinking of an Analog story that made me give up before reaching the end. While its sister publication Asimov's tends more to the social-SF or more literary forms, Analog sticks to a formula of hard-SF with some recurring features: one factual science article, one speculative science article, and a short SF humor piece (Probability Zero). Analog also has a lively letters column, where editor Stanley Schmidt or the story authors often reply. And Schmidt's editorials are always a good read.

Some of the factual science articles well-compliment the stories, some just don't have any relation (and if I skip anything in Analog, it's some of the drier fact pieces). Some excellent write-ups such as a comparison between long-term weather data and historical regime changes could lead to several future stories in the magazine.

Dependable, high-quality, and enjoyable.

One change in publication not mentioned here: both Analog and Asimov's have gone to 10 issues a year from 11, with 2 "double issues" instead of one per year. The double issue is always a treat but then one must wait 2 months for the next regular issue!

Real science fiction -- and great nonfiction!

Disclaimer up front: I've had three novels serialized in ANALOG (Nebula winner THE TERMINAL EXPERIMENT; Hugo and Nebula nominee STARPLEX; and the just-completed HOMINIDS). But I'm also a long-time reader of the magazine (28 years now), and I love it. The fiction is real SF -- stories in which the science is accurate and the speculation credible. But I also love the editorials by Stanley Schmidt; the "Alternate View" columns by Jeff Kooistra and John Cramer (some of the best science writing available anywhere these days), the spirited letters-to-the-editors section, and Tom Easton's book reviews. This is the number-one bestselling science-fiction magazine in the world, and justly so.

The proving ground for science fiction writers

I can't tell you how many great science fiction writers I discovered through reading Analog. My first Larry Niven story was in Analog, as well as my first Spider Robinson story. Most of the greats got their start here, and many of them continue writing a story for Analog now and then.The short story is a good friend to science fiction. It allows for the exploring of an idea without the need to "fill it out" to novel length. This magazine has a nice blend of stories, articles and comic strips. Novel length stories are serialized, and arrive in chapter form. The letter column is often as much fun to read as the stories.As with any anthology, Analog contains it's share of "misses." The good far outweighs the bad, and I strongly recommend it as a subscription.

I love this magazine!!! As if it isn't hard enough to find anyone out there with a good appreciation of independent film (and by appreciation, I also mean knowledge), but then you have to deal with all these film nerds who think that if it wasn't done on a shoestring budget by a no-name director, it must be bad.FILMMAKER does an excellent job of giving an overview of the world of independent film, while still providing good discussions of some more mainstream films. It's tough, when reviewing and writing criticism of any art form, to know what to discuss, and I think that FILMMAKER does this.

Issues stopped coming after 1 issue .Horrible Customer Service

I ordered an one year subscription as a gift to my sister. It's a quarterly magazine. My sister only received one issue in 6 months. When she contacted the publisher, they were lukewarm and told her that it's only a quarterly issue, so it's normal to wait for a few months, like my sister can't do the math. They sent my sister a digital format of the magazine, and that was it. This is so horrible. My gift has now become an inconvenience. I say just read the PDF files of past issues online for free.

Good enough mag - poor customer service...

Entertaining enough magazine - but upon missing delivery of an issue multiple emails to the 'Front Desk' and 'Subscription Department' simply go unanswered and the customer service phone support person never followed through. So, when my subscription expires I'll move on.

Best Jazz Mag Bar None

I've been a JazzTimes subscriber for many years and it is far and above the premier Jazz book on the market. Superior writers, better coverage, and a design that is much easier on the eyes than their imitators, all make JT a bargain. I even got a free DVD for subscribing. Customer service was polite and helpful when I needed to change my address, and I plan on staying a subscriber for years to come.

First of all, this is a magazine for harpists. It is a niche magazine for those interested in harp news, competitions, upcoming workshops, etc. That said, this is an excellant magazine. Good historical articles, interviews and a "classifieds" section for those who want to purchase or sell a harp. Even a small harp is a big investment (most run several thousand dollars), and the harpist owes it to him/herself to learn as much about this instrument, those who have mastered it, and the hisory.

Can't believe no one has reviewed this magazine!

I don't currently subscribe to Dance Magazine. But I was a subscriber for seven years some time ago and I have to take a moment to point out its merits here, especially since no one has done so.

For 76 years, this magazine has been publishing some of the finest commentary on dance of all types in America. There are some newer publications which cater more to the young dancer, the dance teacher who is not affiliated with any major tradition, and which deal with newer and more popular styles of dance. But this was the only dance magazine which was being published when I was a young dancer (I am now 26, and still a dancer).

I would read this magazine cover-to-cover every month. I pulled out countless gorgeous pictures of famous, classically trained dancers to paste on my walls from this magazine. For someone like me who studied dance history, this magazine has been marvelous. It regularly featured articles and interviews with emerging choreographers as well as pieces about those great dancers and choreographers we can all continue to learn from, like Diaghilev, Pavlowa, Ashton, Balanchine, Tharp, Cunningham, Taylor-- the list goes on and on.

The magazine features an advice column for dancers written by Linda Hamilton, PhD, as well as a section for younger dancers, thus catering to the competitive dancer, the auditioning dancer, etc. It reviews performances by nationally reknowned companies, as well as some lesser-known companies, on a monthly basis. It also lists schools and companies nationally, and has a section for classified ads in the back. On the whole the advertising in this magazine was less offensive when I took it than that which I have found in some other dance magazines, often featuring gorgeously trained young dancers and advertising summer programs and schools as well as dance-related products.

In short, this magazine is a highly intelligent publication which has a real sense of the history of dance, particularly American dance, that I have not found in any other publication. The very existence of the the archived photos of dancers you may never see anywhere else that they regularly bring back into circulation is alone enough to truly make the reader feel connected with the world of dance. For me, a young dancer growing up in a somewhat rural area, this magazine connected me with dancers everywhere, helped me to articulate what it was I loved about this beautiful art.

I will note, however, that when I subscribed to this magazine Clive Barnes was the Senior Editor, and has now left the magazine. The Perfect Magazine for All Dancers!

I think this magazine is perfect for anyone who is serious about dance. It covers a lot of different types of dance like Ballet, Jazz, and Hip hop.The "advice for dancers" column is very helpful and the advertisements (for dance shoes, workshops, auditions, equipment, etc.) are useful rather than annoying. Therefore, I would recommend this magazine to anyone who loves to dance.
